Mt K2 Expedition with ADVENTURE BEYOND THE LIMIT
K2 is the second-highest mountain in the world, situated in the Massif of Karakoram range of the Himalayas. At an elevation of 8,610(28,250 ft), it lies in the part of the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan-administered Kashmir and also on the China territory of Kashmir.
In 1852, this peak was named by the British surveyor T.G Montgomerie as the “K” references the Karakoram Mountain range, and 2 represents the symbol of the second peak measured in the Karakoram Range. Locally it is pronounced as Dapsang or Chogori. Popularly K2 is also known as Savage Mountain as the climber George Bell-a told reporters, “it’s a savage mountain that tries to kill you.”
Mount K2 is also ranked as the 22nd most prominent peak in the world. In 1902, the first attempt to reach the summit was made by an Anglo-Swiss Expeditor, which was unsuccessful. After that, many unsuccessful attempts were made via Southeastern ridge. Finally, Organizer and leader Dan Mazur was the first team to Summit on K2.
Mount K2 falls under the Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP). The area itself is host to many endemic flora species and refuge for threatened species in Pakistan. Throughout the journey, snow leopard, Markhor, Marco Polo sheep, musk deer, Himalayan lynx, blue sheep, brown bear, and Indian wolf could be spotted.
To summit Mount K2, there are various routes, but all of them share key difficulties. All of the major routes lie on the Pakistani side. Abruzzi Spur and North Ridge are the main routes to conquer Mount K2, as there are more than dozens of routes. Highlanders’ lifestyles can be experienced throughout the journey.
As it is almost impossible to summit K2 without being caught in life-threatening weather, June, July, and August are said to be the best months to the summit. Snow-capped mountains, blue sky, and shiny glaciers show an ecstatic view in these seasons
