Mt Ama Dablam is considered the most beautiful mountain in the world. This mountain is pyramid shaped and one of the most stunning as well as impressive mountains. The glaciers hang high on the south-west face of Mt Ama Dablam resembling a “Dablam”, the secret ornament box worn by Sherpa ladies. Mt Ama Dablam is located to the south of Mt Everest 8848m and Mt. Lhotse 8516m, in the most popular Khumbu Valley and offers superb diverse views of both mountains, as well as Mt Makalu 8463m and Mt Cho Oyu 8201m. This mountain stands above the Tengboche monastery, which is another pearl of beauty due to the combination of its setting and architecture, and is on the way to Everest Base Camp. However, the Ama Dablam expedition demands good skills in rock climbing and technical competency, and sufficient experience of high altitude.
If you have previous climbing experience and wish to participate fully as a climbing member of an expertly led expedition to one of the world’s most impressive mountains, then the Mt Ama Dablam Expedition is the best suited. Ama Dablam is a technically demanding mountain for climbing and it’s also considered an ornament of the Himalaya in the Everest region of Nepal. Although the height is only 6812m, to climb Ama Dablam requires experience of steep ice, rock, and snow climbing. Mt Ama Dablam is the third most popular Himalayan peak for permitted expeditions. The most popular route for climbing the mountain is the South-west Ridge. The climb is typically done with three camps along the ridge with camp 3 just below and to the right of the hanging glaciers, the Dablam, so that any ice that carves off the glaciers typically goes away from the camp. A climbing permit and liaison officer are required while climbing Ama Dablam. As with the Mount Everest, the best climbing seasons are April – May in spring and September- October in autumn.
Experience required: All climbing members need to have good skills in rock and ice climbing and be technically competent. Sherpas will fix the rope; however, the climber should possess skills in climbing on steep rock and hard compact ice. We follow the standard South-west Ridge route (normal route) to the top, as it is considered the safest route, free from danger. The route we follow begins at Lukla 2850 m. The initial days of the trek pass through the legendary Sherpa country of the spectacular high valley of the Khumbu. Most of the actual climbing route is fixed with no ice fall or glacier to negotiate and it is concentrated on the crest of the ridge. The climb is relatively safe though exposed and steep. It is not really a mountain for debutantes.
