Mt Manaslu Expedition – 8163 m – with ADVENTURE BEYOND THE LIMIT.

Mount Manaslu 8163m is the eighth highest mountain in the world and Manaslu Summit has increased in popularity in recent years. Located along the Nepal-China border in western central Nepal, Mount Manaslu was first climbed by a Japanese expedition team in 1956. In fact, all three peaks of Manaslu were first climbed by Japanese. Mount Manaslu is located about forty miles east of the Annapurna Massif. Manaslu literally means ‘The Mountain of Spirit’. Manaslu offers an alternative to Cho Oyu for those who want to climb a more varied and challenging 8000+ mountain. There are at least six different routes to scale Manaslu, but the south face is the toughest in the history of climbing. The climbing route, which has few technical sections, follows a relatively straight line to the summit. We normally set up four camps during the Mount Manaslu Expedition.

The Climb : Our climbing plan is to set up four camps, excluding the base camp. Don’t forget to acclimatize and rest properly before you climb higher. Also, you need to keep yourself hydrated and take into account the weather conditions. Manaslu Base Camp lies at an altitude of 4665m. In fact, the base camp is in a comfortable position on rock and is protected from strong winds. However, due to its particular location, it is susceptible to daily snowfalls as the valley cloud happens to condense at this altitude. We have to follow the steep path through the forests of rhododendron to reach the base camp. It is about an hour’s walk from Manaslu Base Camp to the snout of Larkya La Glacier. Depending on the snow conditions, it may be necessary to change the climbing method. Camp I is located at an altitude of 5500m and we have to climb for about 2-3 hours before reaching there. We climb towards a massive icefall from Camp I and while passing under the icefall, we reach a steep snow slope fixed with rope up to Camp II. Camp II is located at an altitude of 6300m. Then, we pass through a series of snow shelves before ascending a steeper snow slope to reach a large col. Camp III lies at an altitude of 6700m. Our route goes directly up the steeper north-east slopes from Camp III. We pass through short ice bulges reaching the upper snow slope leading to Camp IV at altitude 7300m. The summit of Mount Manaslu is close to Camp IV. But still, due to the snow slopes and steep sections en route, it takes a whole day’s work to get to the summit. We stop at a comfortable place near the summit and collect enough rope and oxygen for the final push. We descend to Camp II on the same day after summiting Mount Manaslu.

Mt Manaslu Expedition Base Camp Services:
Adventure Beyond the Limit, provides very professional, supportive and friendly mountaineering logistic services from Kathmandu to the ABC as well as during the climb. Our objective is to ensure a good quality, supportive, safe, friendly, stress-free and comprehensive service to maximize summit opportunity.
We provide a comprehensive service organizing all necessary permits, climbing documentation, travel logistics including airfare and ground transportation, porters, and other individual services required by clients. On the track of the ABC, we provide all the required accommodation and food.
At the base camp, our cook and helpers will prepare and serve three delicious, freshly cooked and plentiful meals a day and will ensure that hot and cold drinks are available 24hrs a day.
At the base camp, we provide spaciously, expedition-quality, personal tents for all our clients both with full board or base camp service only.
At the base camp, we also provide a dining tent, kitchen tent, toilet facilities, portable shower facilities and tent accommodation for our staff. We also have comprehensive First aid kits available to our clients.
At the base camp, we provide access to communication including the satellite phone and internet access, and a solar panel to charge your camera battery.

Mt Manaslu Expedition Full Board Service:
For full board clients, we provide a personal tent and food, which will be prepared in high camp by their climbing Sherpa. We provide a UHF/ VHF hand-held radio on the mountains to maintain communication between ABC and high camp.
Full board with us means the provision of a personal climbing Sherpa/guide for each individual climber, who will help the client to reach the summit. The personal climbing Sherpa will set up camp 1, camp 2, camp 3 and the last camp, and provide anything else required such as and including food, fuel and oxygen and will guide and assist the client on the summit day. There are no commercial expeditions on Manaslu so your climbing Sherpa in cooperation with other client’s climbing Sherpa will set up the fixed rope to the summit.
